Abstract
The single longitudinal mode properties of external cavity broad-strip e lasers combined with bandpass filters have been investigated. With t apered amplifiers the emission wavelength changes periodically as a fu nction of the driving current due to shifting of the internal Fabry-Pe r of mode and the narrow bandwidth of the Biter. In contrast, with str aight amplifiers, the peak wavelength monotonically varies. This is du e to changes in the transverse mode of straight amplifiers.
