Abstract
The method is based on measuring the neutron cross-section of a powder ed sample at neutron wavelengths beyond its Bragg cutoff. The effect o f the neutron beam broadening due to its transmission through the powd er sample on cross-section was treated as small angle neutron scatteri ng (SANS) cross-section. The SANS cross-section was determined as the difference between its measured cross-section in powder form and in bu lk metal. At certain conditions the SANS cross-section values of powde red samples were found to be inversely proportional to the particle si ze. The method was applied for particle size determination of iron pow ders. The accuracy in particle size was found to be 8%.
