Abstract
The structural peculiarities and the influence of additional doping of PbWO4 crystals with Nb, Bi, Yb, and Mg ions have been investigated. I t is shown that even a small amount of specific impurities leads to an important redistribution of the structural point defects, the radiati ng centres, and their properties in the crystals. The data have been u sed for further optimization of PbWO4 scintillator development for ele ctromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) of compact muon solenoid (CMS) at CERN .
