Rs. Fletcher et al., SIBYLL - AN EVENT GENERATOR FOR SIMULATION OF HIGH-ENERGY COSMIC-RAY CASCADES, Physical review. D. Particles and fields, 50(9), 1994, pp. 5710-5731
We describe the physical basis and some applications of an efficient e
vent generator designed for Monte Carlo simulations of atmospheric cas
cades at ultrahigh energies. The event generator (SIBYLL) incorporates
many features of the Lund programs, but emphasizes the fragmentation
region and the production of minijets. A consistent treatment of hadro
n-hadron and hadron-nucleus interactions is emphasized. Examples of ap
plications are the calculation of coincident muons observed in deep un
derground detectors and the simulation of the longitudinal development
of air shower components in the atmosphere.
