Improved donor groups for chromophores play a major role in the develo
pment of organic materials for nonlinear optics. Guanidyl and phosphor
animinyl residues are examined as donors in one-dimensional organic no
nlinear optical chromophores such as that shown in the Figure. The res
ults of electrooptical absorption (EOAM) and electric field induced se
cond harmonic generation (EFISH) measurements are presented and discus
sed.
