Swelling equilibrium experiments for the system water-ethylene glycol-
crosslinked PVA membrane at various temperatures were investigated. A
liquid-membrane swelling equilibrium model was developed on the basis
of a modified UNIQUAC equation and Flory-Huggins thermodynamics and go
od agreement between the derived equation predictions and the experime
ntal values for the preferential sorption of water-ethylene glycol mix
tures in the crosslinked PVA membrane was obtained.
