Wh. Traub et B. Leonhard, ANTAGONISM OF TEICOPLANIN AND VANCOMYCIN ACTIVITY BY CHOCOLATIZED MUELLER-HINTON AGAR, Chemotherapy, 42(5), 1996, pp. 343-347
Chocolatized (80 degrees C, 13 min) Mueller-Hinton agar antagonized th
e inhibitory activities of teicoplanin and vancomycin against referenc
e strains of Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, Strepto
coccus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Enterococcus faecalis. T
his antagonism was due to heat-exposed sheep erythrocytes, sheep hemog
lobin, and the supernatant fluid from lysed sheep erythrocytes, but no
t to sheep serum. Neither water-soluble cholesterol, bovine albumin, b
ovine serum, hematin, hemin nor egg yolk suspension antagonized teicop
lanin and vancomycin.
