A simple, rapid and highly selective method for trace determination of
palladium is worked out employing complexation reaction of palladium(
II) with isonitrosopropionylthiophene in dilute acetic acid solution.
The coloured complex is quantitatively extracted into chloroform. The
method obeys Beer's law in the range 0.0-6.8 mu g Pd in 1 ml with lamb
da(max) at 434 nm and has a Sandell's sensitivity of 4.3x10(-3) mu g c
m(-2). The ratio of metal to ligand in the extracted complex is 1:2. U
tilizing the method, the analysis of various samples has been carried
out satisfactorily and the results obtained are reproducible with a re
lative standard deviation of only 0.58% for ten replicate determinatio
ns using 50 mu g palladium each time.
