The results of the study of rocks collected in 19th cruise of the R/V
''Akademik Mstislav Keldysh'' during the dives of the ''MIR'' submersi
bles on the slopes of the King's Trough and on the Palmer Ridge, the A
tlantic Ocean are described. On the base of these materials and publis
hed data the history of magmatism and of development of the area in st
udy is reconstructed. There were two periods in this history. The firs
t period (62-32 My ago) was a period of a mid-ocean ridge formation in
the rift zone. The second period (32-0 My ago) was a period of the in
fluence of intraplate volcanism and movement above the ''hot spot''.
