Abstract
We have investigated the ability of Rh:BaTiO3 to couple and diffract l ight via electro-optic and absorption gratings. The photorefractive tw o-beam coupling gain we observed was very high, showing the potential of this crystal to efficiently amplify weak signals. Also, to estimate the strength of the gratings formed during beam coupling, we have mea sured diffraction efficiency, which was as high as 80%. Additionally a n improvement in the response time, as compared to an undoped BaTiO3 c rystal was observed.
