A young man developed intracranial hypertension immediately after myel
ography with non-ionic water-soluble contrast medium (iopamidol). Cere
bral angiography showed extensive cerebral venous thrombosis. The comm
on causes of thrombophlebitis were excluded. A relationship to the con
trast medium was strongly suspected, since a similar case has been rep
orted. The rheological properties and haemoconcentration induced by io
pamidol could explain this complication.
