The behavior of operating lines for the reactive rectification of a bi
nary homogeneous mixture is studied using qualitative methods of analy
zing dynamic systems. Three limiting cases of the rectification are co
nsidered: (1) with a low-rate chemical reaction, (2) with a high-rate
chemical reaction, and (3) with a small liquid reflux. Reversible and
irreversible first-order chemical reactions for zeotropic and azeotrop
ic binary mixtures are studied as examples. It is shown that the opera
ting line can intersect the vapor-liquid equilibrium curve no more tha
n once.
