Adverse events from intravascular injection of radiographic contrast m
aterial occur in a random and unpredictable fashion. Severity may rang
e from mild discomfort to fatal reactions. It is incumbent upon all ra
diologists to be familiar with appropriate treatment of reactions to c
ontrast material. This article reviews the equipment and medications t
hat should be available for treating adverse events and summarizes the
manifestations and currently recommended therapies for the more commo
n types of reactions.
