Abstract
Dimethylsulfide reacts with (triphenylphosphine)gold(I) trifluorometha nesulfonate to give quantitative yields of the mixed ligand complex [( Ph(3)P)Au(SMe(2))](O3SCF3-)-O-+ (1). The structure of compound 1 has b een determined by an X-ray crystal structure analysis. The lattice con tains independent anions and (monomeric) cations; which have a linear P-Au-S axis. Attempts to produce a binuclear: dicationic complex throu gh addition of a second equivalent of [(Ph(3)P)Au](+) failed and lead to decomposition products including [(Ph(3)P)(2)Au](O3SCF3-)-O-+.
