Rc. Bump et al., THE STANDARDIZATION OF TERMINOLOGY OF FEMALE PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE AND PELVIC FLOOR DYSFUNCTION, American journal of obstetrics and gynecology, 175(1), 1996, pp. 10-17
This article presents a standard system of terminology recently approv
ed by the International Continence Society, the American Urogynecologi
c Society, and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons for the description
of female pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction. An obje
ctive site-specific system for describing, quantitating, and staging p
elvic support in women is included. It has been developed to enhance b
oth clinical and academic communication regarding individual patients
and populations oi: patients. Clinicians and researchers caring for wo
men with pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction are encour
aged to learn and use the system.
