Abstract
Interpretation of SP anomalies due to 2D horizontal circular cylinders is presented using the modified Hilbert transform. The modified Hilbe rt transform defined here is equal to the conventional Hilbert transfo rm in magnitude but differs in phase. The additional phase associated with the modified Hilbert transform paves the way for a straightforwar d interpretation of SP anomalies which was not the case with the conve ntional definition of the Hilbert transform. It is interesting to note that these two Versions of the Hilbert transform intersect exactly ov er the origin. The point of intersection of the amplitudes of these tw o versions also corresponds to the origin. A theoretical model illustr ates the procedure. The effect of random noise on the interpretative p rocess is studied. A field example of 'Sulleymonkey' anomaly in the Er goni Copper district, Turkey substantiates the applicability of the me thod.
