Lipoid proteinosis (LP) is a recessively, inherited disorder, characte
rized by the deposition of hyaline-material in the oral cavity, skin a
nd other tissues. We report a case of a 26-year-old woman with the cli
nical features of LP. Oil-red staining fibroblasts cultured from a nod
ular lesion, showed the presence of neutral fat distributed as drops,
larger and much more numerous than in control cells. We demonstrate th
at the cytoplasmic lipid inclusions present in vivo are observed in vi
tro with routine lipid stains.
