Abstract
Diuresis sonography with intravenous application of Furosemide is a st andardized method to differentiate pyeloureteral obstruction from a di lated collecting system with normal flow. Question. Is it possible to replace intravenous administration of Furosemide by oral application o f Furosemide? Methods. 28 children (20 boys, 8 girls) with suspected s ubpelvic or ureterovesical obstruction were examined by sonography und er conditions of intravenous and oral application of Furosemide (at le ast one day later). Results. Statistical evaluation shows that intrave nous administration of Furosemide can be replaced by oral application as long as the different cinetics are considered. Conclusion. Oral app lication of Furosemide is much less invasive for the child. We therefo re recommend the oral application of the diuretic together with tea ac cording to a new diagnostic plan.
