In-situ infrared absorbance spectra of alpha-NaVO3 are obtained in the
range of 450-1200 cm(-1) up to 300 kbar. Two distinct phase transform
ations are observed at 50 and 70 kbar, respectively. The phase transit
ion at 50 kbar is indicated by a change in slope of the pressure depen
dence of the band frequencies. The crystalline-to-disordered phase tra
nsformation takes place at 70 kbar. Copyright (C) 1996 Published by El
