Acf. Cocks, VARIATIONAL-PRINCIPLES, NUMERICAL SCHEMES AND BOUNDING THEOREMS FOR DEFORMATION BY NABARRO-HERRING CREEP, Journal of the mechanics and physics of solids, 44(9), 1996, pp. 1429-1452
In this paper two variational principles are presented for the analysi
s of problems in which self diffusion is the dominant mechanism of mat
erial redistribution within a solid body. It is demonstrated how these
variational principles can be used as the basis for developing numeri
cal procedures and bounding theorems for analysing the response of cre
eping bodies. The resulting procedures are used to analyse the creep d
eformation of a regular two-dimensional array of hexagonal grains and
the process of void growth when the body contains a uniform distributi
on of triple-point voids. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
