A Raman scattering study has been carried out on PEO (MW = 400-5 . 10(
6)) with polar (OH-) and non-polar (CH3-) end groups, complexed with s
odium and lithium triflates. The ionic configurations are determined b
y observing changes in the S3(O)(-) symmetric stretching mode (reflect
ing anion environment) and metal cation-polyether oxygen modes (reflec
ting cation-polymer chain coordinations). The results are compared wit
h those of PEO sulfonic acid derivatives (SO3-endcapped PEG).
