This article addresses acute and subacute occupational therapy treatme
nt techniques for older adults status-post total hip replacement and r
epair. Emphasis is on stimulating musculoskeletal, postural, sensory,
cognitive, and psychosocial human components to maximize independence
in activities of daily living and mobility. The focus is on designing
client-specific treatment plans within orthopaedic precautions. Interd
isciplinary treatment for addressing and preventing bowel, bladder, an
d skin integrity complications is stressed. Efficiency in design and i
mplementation of treatment plans is highlighted.
