Mg. Dobb et M. Ghane, TENSILE AND COMPRESSIVE MODULI OF FIBERS USING A 2-COMPONENT BEAM SYSTEM, Journal of Materials Science, 31(17), 1996, pp. 4445-4450
Serious difficulties are associated with the measurement of the compre
ssive modulus of fibres owing to their tendency to buckle during loadi
ng. A novel technique is described, based on the theory of two-compone
nt materials for determining both the tensile and compressive moduli o
f reinforcing fibres in composites. It was found, particularly with Ke
vlar 49, that the two moduli are significantly different.
