Navy medicine is challenged to provide ongoing and realistic training
for medical personnel who will be deployed to provide battlefield care
. Current events in this country suggest that the need for realistic t
raining could be met while simultaneously providing support to civilia
n communities with great need, Deployable Medical Systems hospital mod
ules could be set up in areas where the medical care system is overwhe
lmed and provide real patient management on the deployment platform. T
his innovative approach to providing ''mutual support'' to our own cit
izens will also enhance the cooperation between the civilian and milit
ary sectors should a civil disaster occur.
