H. Jonuleit et al., CYTOKINES AND THEIR EFFECTS ON MATURATION, DIFFERENTIATION AND MIGRATION OF DENDRITIC CELLS, Archives of dermatological research, 289(1), 1996, pp. 1-8
In this review the role of cytokines in the maturation and migration o
f phenotypically and functionally diverse dendritic cell (DC) subpopul
ations is discussed and their role in the progress of differentiation
from bone marrow progenitors to lymphoid DC is described. GM-CSF is th
e most important cytokine for the development of functional DC and act
s in concert with a varying mixture of other cytokines such as IL-4, I
L-1 and TNF-alpha to direct the development of individual DC subpopula
tions.
