K. Ptak, THE STRATEGY OF EGGS DEPOSITION BY TETRODONTOPHORA-BIELANENSIS (COLLEMBOLA) IN THE YEAR 1994, Acta Biologica Cracoviensia. Series Zoologia, 38, 1996, pp. 11-17
According to Krzysztofowicz and Jura (1995) Tetrodontophora bielanensi
s deposit the eggs in autumn, in different terms, between 30th of Octo
ber and 1st of December. Depending on the temperature of environment t
he vitellogenesis lasts 60-91 days. The occurrence in September, this
is in the period when the process of vitellogenesis is most intense, o
f more days than normally with sub-zero temperatures accelerates the t
erm of the beginning of eggs deposition. In present paper these observ
ations were fully confirmed. In the autumn of the year 1994 the eggs w
ere deposited beginning from 22nd of November. In September of this ye
ar there were not noted the days with sub-zero temperatures, the proce
ss of vitellogenesis was comparatively prolonged and continued 82 days
. Basing on literature, the influence of the juvenile hormone on the p
rogress of vitellogenesis is discussed.
