Branching ratios for dissociative recombination of (NN+)-N-15-N-14 mol
ecular ions in the X(2) Sigma(g)(+) electronic ground state were measu
red by a molecular imaging technique at the heavy ion storage ring AST
RID. For v = 0, the branching ratios for the final channels [N(S-4) N(D-2):N(S-4) + N(P-2):N(D-2) + N(D-2)] were found to be (0.46:0.08:0.
46). The fact that the N(S-4) + N(D-2) and N(D-2) + N(D-2) channels do
minate is in agreement with recent multichannel quantum-defect theory
calculations. Implications for modeling of the Martian atmosphere are
discussed.
