Adsorption of N-phenylmaleimide and its derivatives (N-p-methoxyphenyl
maleimide and N-p-bromophenylmaleimide) at the iron electrode in neutr
al water-ethanol solutions was studied by the impedance method. The di
fference in adsorption behavior of the compounds was found by using ba
ck integration of the capacity curves and the potential dependence of
the adsorption energy. It was shown that adsorption of the methoxy-der
ivative is described by a single adsorption state, while for N-phenylm
aleimide and N-p-bromophenylmaleimide, two adsorption states are obser
ved in the plot of Delta G(A)(0) vs. electrode potential. An attempt w
as made to find a correlation between the calculated adsorption parame
ters and quantum-chemical calculations.
