We report on the two new orthothioborates Li3BS3 (Pnma; a = 8.144(1) A
ngstrom, b = 10.063(2) Angstrom, 6.161(1) Angstrom; Z = 4) and LiSrBS3
(Pnma; a = 7.557(1) Angstrom, b = 9.083(2) Angstrom, c = 7.049(1) Ang
strom; Z = 4). The two new phases were prepared by reaction of the met
al sulfides, amorphous boron, and sulfur at 700 degrees C. Both compou
nds contain isolated, planar [BS3](3-) anions. The lithium ions have f
ourfold (Li3BS3 and sixfold (LiSrBS3) sulfur coordination, the stronti
um ion shows an eightfold sulfur coordination. The two compounds repre
sent new A(3)BX(3) resp. AA'BX(3) structure types.
