We describe five sporadic cases of the EEC syndrome (ectrodactyly, ect
odermal dysplasia, and cleft lip). There are only a few reports of the
syndrome being inherited in Japan. Two of the five patients had genit
ourinary anomalies and one mental retardation. Four of the five patien
ts had clefts in the primary and secondary palate. All had deformities
of the hands, polydactyly, syndactyly, and camptodactyly. Syndactyly
could be a component of the syndrome.
