Abstract
CD4 is widely known as the HIV receptor, but is insufficient to allow viral infection. Recently, members of the family of chemokine receptor s have been identified as the missing co-receptors, which act with CD4 to allow the virus to enter cells. These discoveries open up the poss ibilities of novel therapeutic strategies to combat HIV infection and AIDS.
