THERAPEUTIC DRUG-MONITORING OF THE ANTIMYCOBACTERIAL DRUGS

Therapeutic drug monitoring is a process that allows clinicians to qua ntify and control drug therapy. Serum concentration data can be used t o generate various pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters. The se parameters, in turn, can be used to optimize the doses used for ind ividual patients. The goal is to provide enough drug to obtain a thera peutic response without overt toxicity. The specific application of th is process to the antimycobacterial drugs is reviewed.
