Abstract
,10-phenanthroline-2-caiboxylato-N,N',O)cobalt(II) hydrate, [Co(C14H9N 2O4)(2)].H2O, and ,10-phenanthroline-2-carboxylato-N,N',O)copper(II) h ydrate, [Cu(C14H9N2O4)(2)].H2O, are isostructural. The stable gem-diol ligands are tridentate (two N atoms and one carboxylate O atom) and f orm a distorted octahedron around the metal center. The total bite ang le of the ligand is approximately 150 degrees.
