To our knowledge, there has been no experimental report supporting the
existence of the self-trapped magnetic polaron (STMP) indisputably. T
he present calculation, with use of accurate interaction between local
ized f spins, enables us to make conclusions about the possible self-t
rapped magnetic polaron in EuSe, providing that both the values for th
e effective mass and the d-f exchange interaction used in the calculat
ion are appropriate to this material. The calculated STMP is the typic
al large magnetic polaron accompanying the induced ferromagnetic regio
n with the radius of the 2-3 lattice constant. To examine this conclus
ion, we analyze the experimental result for Eu-rich EuSe; the analysis
reveals the strong magnetic polaron effect in EuSe. Further experimen
tal confirmation of the existence of the STMP would be desired.
