Transformations of methane in the presence of the (PdCl2-HPA)/SiO2 (HP
A is a heteropoly acid of the 12th row, NanH9-n[PMo6V6O40]) were studi
ed. The reaction of CH4 (1.5-3.8 x 10(-2) mol/l) with (PdCl2-HPA)/SiO2
(the molar ratio of the components, 0.3 : 0.7 : 100) in a static reac
tor at 300 degrees C leads to CH3Cl (the yield based on CH4 consumed u
p to 20%), CO2 (the maximum yield, similar to 25%), and carbon-contain
ing compounds with the catalyst components, which upon interaction wit
h hydrogen produce CH4, C2H6, and C3H8 (the yield based on carbon cont
ent of CH4, up to 10%). The reaction rate is independent of the O-2 co
ncentration. No reaction occurs without PdCl2. HPA participates in the
reoxidation of reduced palladium by oxygen.
