Antiphospholipid syndrome (APLS) is defined as a symptom complex chara
cterized by arterial and venous thromboses, obstetric abnormalities, t
hrombocytopenia and hyperproduction of antiphospholipid antibodies. AP
LS may be primary and secondary developing in the presence of autoimmu
ne disorders, SLE in particular. At examination of 28 patients with pr
imary and secondary APLS 14 patients proved hypertensive. Renal pathol
ogy was absent. Arterial hypertension appeared often in combination wi
th microthrombi of the skin and affections of peripheral vessels. Arte
rial hypertension as a cardiological sign of APLS occurs more frequent
ly than other symptoms.
