The calculation of ''boundary functions'' on liquid (open) parts of bo
undaries is a problem in hydrodynamics [3]. We consider this problem u
sing optimal control approaches and apply to some mathematical models.
To investigate and to solve the problem we use : (i) data assimilatio
n processes; (ii) techniques of the optimal control theory; (iii) inve
rse theory methods; (iv) modem iterative algorithms and numerical meth
ods. We discuss the efficiency of the proposed methodology and present
the results of numerical experiments.
