Abstract
Trends in growth of sole and plaice stocks were examined From ICES are as IV, VII and VIII for periods of 10-20 years. Within each area, ther e were significant differences between plaice and sole in the trends i n catch weight-at-age. Plaice showed a general decline in weight in mo st stocks compared with more variable trends insole. The changes in gr owth were thought to be related to both environmental factors and fish ing pressure. (C) 1996 International Council for the Exploration of th e Sea
