There has been prolific patenting activity surrounding antisense techn
ology to date. With more than fifty issued patents and innumerable app
lications published, a relatively clear picture about current and futu
re patent positions can be defined. In this article the basics of anti
sense patenting, various strategies and the current patent positions o
f the major antisense programs are reviewed.
