The results of a study on the interaction of a jet of the hydrogen-con
taining plasma of an atmospheric-pressure are-discharge with an aqueou
s solution of copper sulfate are presented. The reaction was carried o
ut at a solution temperature of 75-90 degrees C, which is well below t
he temperature of the reduction reaction of copper ions by molecular h
ydrogen in aqueous solutions. The formation of ultrafine particles in
this solution was established. The ultrafine powders produced contain
primarily copper sulfides; no metal copper has been found. The experim
ental results and estimations made are indicative of the probable part
icipation of atomic hydrogen in chemical reactions with the components
of solution.
