M. Jena et We. Mitch, RAPIDLY REVERSIBLE ACUTE-RENAL-FAILURE FROM URETERAL OBSTRUCTION IN PREGNANCY, American journal of kidney diseases, 28(3), 1996, pp. 457-460
We report a case of acute renal failure due to bilateral ureteral obst
ruction that rapidly resolved after delivery, Acute renal failure seco
ndary to bilateral ureteral obstruction is rare; to our knowledge, onl
y 18 cases have been reported in the English literature, Review of the
se cases reveals that twin pregnancies, polyhydramnios, and obstructio
n of the solitary kidney seem to increase the risk of obstructive rena
l failure. Measures including induced delivery, amniocentesis, and ins
ertion of ureteral stents or nephrostomy tubes undertaken to relieve t
he ureteral obstruction usually lead to rapid improvement in urine flo
w and renal function, Acute renal failure secondary to bilateral urete
ral obstruction is a rare but reversible complication of pregnancy. (C
