J. Oros et al., RESPIRATORY AND DIGESTIVE LESIONS CAUSED BY SALMONELLA-ARIZONAE IN 2 SNAKES, Journal of Comparative Pathology, 115(2), 1996, pp. 185-189
Cases of diphtheritic necrotizing gastritis in a Rosy Boa (Lichanura t
rivirgata) and of necrotizing tracheitis in a double-headed Kingsnake
(Lampropeltis hondurensis), both associated with Salmonella arizonae,
are described. An immuno-peroxidase technique indicated that S. arizon
ae played a role in the causation of the lesions. In addition, the stu
dy showed the value of the technique for the detection of S. arizonae
in the tissues of infected snakes. (C) 1996 W.B. Saunders Company Limi
