Abstract
The plasma erosion technique has been applied to three formulations of window-grade unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (UPVC). Degradation was measured in terms of loss of gloss and variations in microhardness an d colour. The results were compared with data derived from extensive a rtificial and natural weathering of these materials. The plasma erosio n technique caused a very rapid loss of gloss but had a comparatively small impact on microhardness and colour. The results showed no correl ation with the data derived from the weathering studies. The plasma tr eatment would appear unsatisfactory as an accelerated weathering techn ique for these materials.
