M. Valdivie et al., BROWN SACCHARINA AND SACCHABONIATO AS REPLACERS OF INDUSTRIAL SACCHARINA FOR BROILERS, Cuban journal of agricultural science, 30(1), 1996, pp. 73-76
A total of 360 ES-36 chicks of both sexes was assigned from 7 to 49 da
ys of age to the following treatments: concentrates with 10% of indust
rial Saccharina prepared with return bagasse pith, concentrates with 1
0% brown Saccharina and concentrates with 10% Sacchaboniato, to determ
ine the possibility of using brown Saccharina and Sacchaboniato as rep
laces of the traditional industrial Saccharina in broiler feeding. Ani
mals were distributed according to a completely randomized design in 3
treatments with 6 replications. There were no significant differences
between treatments. Viability was of 98, 99 and 99%, final liveweight
of 1460, 1469 and 1469 g/bird, Saccharina consumption of 311, 306 and
300 g/bird, total consumption of 2801, 2749 and 2698 g/bird, total co
nversion of 2.26, 2.21 and 2.18 and traditional feed conversion of 2.0
3, 1.99 and 1.95 for treatments 1, 2 and 3, respectively. For the firs
t time in the field of poultry feeding, the possibility of using up to
10% of brown Saccharina or of Sacchaboniato in broiler concentrates w
as demonstrated.
