Russia starred its decollectivisation effort in earnest after the abor
tive 1991 coup attempt. A legislative foundation has been laid and ove
r one-quarter million peasant farms have been created, many through th
e act of exiting a collective by a farm worker faking his or her land
and asset shares along. Yet significant obstacles remain in the path o
f both continued peasant farm creation and the viability of those alre
ady functioning.
