BaCu4Ni1-xS2-delta is found to be single phase of x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3
and 0.4, and delta = 0.00 to 0.09 and is isostructural with tetragona
l BaNiS2. Lattice parameters (a a = 4.4374(2) Angstrom and c = 8.9089(
4) Angstrom for x = 0.0; a = 4.4659(2) Angstrom and c = 8.9549(5) Angs
trom for x = 0.4) were determined using X-ray powder diffraction. For
x > 0 the resistivity is only weakly temperature dependent and rho(300
) approximate to 10(-3) Omega cm. Magnetic susceptibility data indicat
e Pauli paramagnetic behavior with chi(0) = 0.8 x 10(-6) emu g(-1).
