A thermodynamic study of the binary system Os-Zr has been carried out.
Direct reaction calorimetry at high temperature gave the enthalpies o
f formation of Os0.50Zr0.50 (Delta(f)H = -40500+/-1400 J (at. mol)(-1)
), Os0.33Zr0.67 (Delta(f)H = -20500+/-2500 J (at. mol)(-1)) and Os0.24
6Zr0.754 (Delta(f)H = -28800+/-1200 J (at. mol)(-1)). Two intermetalli
c compounds have been discovered, OsZr2 and Os17Zr54. A thermodynamic
phase diagram computation of the system is proposed.
