F. Mongin et al., PYRIDINE HYDROCHLORIDE - A NEW REAGENT FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF O-CHLORO HYDROXY DERIVATIVES IN PYRIDINE AND QUINOLINE SERIES, Tetrahedron letters, 37(37), 1996, pp. 6695-6698
Pyridine hydrochloride has been widely used in the cleavage of ethers.
It is shown herein that this reagent is also efficient for the synthe
sis of chloro compounds starting from the corresponding bromo derivati
ves in pi-deficient series such as pyridine and quinoline. Thus, for e
xample, 7-bromo-8-hydroxyquinoline was almost quantitatively converted
into 7-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline. The scope of the reaction has been
studied. Copyright (C) 1996 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd
