Abstract
Solid solutions LiCr1-xAlxTiO4 (0 less than or equal to x less than or
equal to 0.4) were obtained by solid state reactions in air at 1173 K
. Neutron diffraction data have been used to refine the crystal struct
ure of the spinel LiCrTiO4, which is common to all members of the seri
es and shows a cubic symmetry (space group Fd3m). Magnetic properties
are discussed and the results suggest antiferromagnetic interactions i
n the octahedral sublattice that provoke an inherent frustration. (C)
