Abstract
Decreased levels of serotonin were found in fibromyalgia (n=60) and ma jor depression (n=20) in comparison to healthy controls (n=20). In add ition, patients with fibromyalgia showed decreased levels of calcitoni n and prostaglandin E2 compared to controls. On the other hand, decrea sed levels of oxytocin were found in patients with major depression if compared to controls. Further investigations will be needed to confir m these results, especially with regard to sensitivity and specificity .
